Solution to The Sydney Mystery Demo...
The full solution for
the demo (Act One) is below, but we don't want to tempt you to look here unless you're
really stuck! The text is hidden; drag your mouse to highlight it,
and then it will become visible...
Watch the Twilight Software logo video. At the title
screen, click New Game to begin a new game. Watch the kidnapping video.
Begin Act One. At your house, click to approach the house. Open the door.
Go
right into the living room. Walk into
the dining room, and then into the kitchen. Walk to the second counter,
out of view but on the left side of the screen, and listen to the message
from your uncle on the answering machine.
Back in the kitchen, look at the
main counter, on the right of the screen, move the jar, and pick up the
knife. Now walk all of the way outside, by clicking repeatedly at the
bottom of the screen, until you “Travel Elsewhere” and you have a map of
the city.
Travel to the city map, then go north-west of the city, and then go to
your uncle’s house.
At your uncle’s house, walk up the driveway and up to the front door. Read
the police note next to the door, then go inside. Take a look at the table
in the foyer. Walk to the hall, to the left of the grandfather clock. From
the hall, walk to your uncle’s office, then approach the desk. Read the
note he has left you on the desk. When you first walk into the office,
take a look at the locked drawer, or safe, that’s in the lower left corner
of the screen. When back in the hall, walk right into the dining room, and
look at the table. Look at the newspaper to read about the bombings. Walk back all the way until you can travel
elsewhere.
Travel to the neighbour’s house, which is also north of the city.
Enter the garden by walking forward once, but before you talk to the
neighbour, walk into the yard on the right. Look at the ground and pick up
the stick. Also, look up into the tree, and then up at the branch on the
left. Observe the sparkle, but do nothing about it yet. Then, walk back,
and then approach the neighbour. Talk to her about everything possible.
When done, travel to Reg’s house, also north of the city.
At Reg’s house, look at the fence, where the letterbox is. Look again at
the letterbox, and retrieve the first key. Walk back, and then enter the
garden. Walk all the way up to the front door. Read the note, and take the
blunt pencil.
Travel elsewhere, on the same central city map, to The City itself.
In the city, first walk toward the town hall. Continue forward. Walk
down the steps going below street level. Look under the seat, and
use the knife on the key to dislodge it. Pick up the key. Use the stick on
the gum, and then pick up the sticky stick, too. Walk all the way back.
Travel elsewhere, this time to The Rocks, to meet Reg.
Walk forward and talk to Reginald. Talk about everything.
Return to the neighbour’s house. Walk forward, and then right, into the
yard again. Look up at the tree, and the branch, and use the sticky stick
on the sparkle. Walk back to the yard, look at the ground, and pick up the
key that fell.
Return to your uncle’s house, and find the safe – the locked drawer – in
his office, on the left just inside the door. Use each key on its
corresponding lock. Open the drawer. Walk back to travel.
The demo
ends here, at the end of Act One. You might have have found more
items than were mentioned in this walkthrough. You'll need to
purchase the full game to find out what they're all used for.
Take a look at your inventory after
completing the demo. Again, highlight this hidden text by
dragging your mouse over it...

things can be achieved in Act One, although you won't need them until you
